ENS de Lyon

The Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon is a stimulating environment for research and advanced training. Closely linking research and training, the “ENS de Lyon” trains managers of higher education and research. Bringing together the main part of exact sciences, humanities and social sciences, the ENS de Lyon promotes interdisciplinary research projects and international cooperation, to give a greater scientific intelligibility to the complexity of the current stakes and in particular in the area of risk.

The 650 researchers and professors and 530 postdoctoral and PhD students of the ENS de Lyon, supported by 600 administrative and technical staff, work in 23 research laboratories equipped with the best research and technical facilities, 3 interdisciplinary laboratories and 5 Service Units with outstanding technical platforms. ENS de Lyon can quote, since 2011, a Fields Medal, 2 awards Gay-Lussac-Von Humboldt, 13 medals CNRS (4 silver, 7 bronze, 2 Cristal CNRS), 17 nominations in “Institut Universitaire de France” and 34 other national and international awards. The research results have produced since 2011, 4,500 articles published in refereed journals. These articles have been cited 35,000 times.

The Institute of Analytical Sciences (ISA) is a center of research, expertise, services, and training in analytical chemistry. This Joint Unit of Research (UMR 5280) is contracted with the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), the University of Lyon1 (UCBL), and the ENS DE LYON. ISA is divided into 3 departments: the European Centre for high fields NMR (CRMN), the Analytical Sciences Laboratory (LSA), and the Central Analysis Service (SCA). Total staff is about 200 persons including 120 permanents and 60 PhD students and post-doctoral fellows.

The team SIMS “Surfaces - (bio) Interface - Micro/nano Systems” (department ISA) is devoted to the conception and characterization of flexible BioMEMS (Conception and engineering of surfaces and layers, including recognizing molecules, well-adapted to various transducers: FETs-based, micro/nanoelectrodes, micro/nanointerdigitated conductimetric, impedimetric, microfluidics etc.). This also includes novel research for the fabrication of BioMEMS devices for the packaging of (bio)chemical sensors with microfluidic systems.
